How does the recruiting process work?
The recruiting process is divided into two phases. On March 18, 2025, an in-person mandatory entrance test will be held for all departments. In the following weeks, selected candidates will be invited for an individual interview.
How is the entrance test structured?
The written test includes an introductory, non-evaluated section, 10 multiple-choice questions on the 2025 regulations, technical questions – both general and department-specific. The test will be conducted via Microsoft Forms, so a device (PC or tablet) and a stable internet connection are required.
Do I need to submit my CV for the selection process?
You can upload your CV during the entrance test, but it is not mandatory and will not be a selection criterion.
How can I best prepare for the test?
By studying the 2025 Formula Student regulations (except the part about combustion vehicles) and having a general understanding of the topics related to the department you're applying for. Additional reading materials, papers, and online lectures can also be useful.
How can I best prepare for the interview?
The interview will focus on getting to know each candidate better. The topics will be the same as in the entrance test, so no additional preparation is required. However, technical aspects related to your chosen department may be explored in more depth.
Am I restricted to a specific department based on my field of study?
No, your degree program does not determine your department choice. However, knowledge from your studies may help with your application in a particular field.
Can I join the team if I’m a first-year student?
Absolutely! There are no academic requirements (such as completed exams) to join the team. We are looking for passionate candidates who are eager to learn and challenge themselves with guidance from more experienced team members.
Can I join the team if I’m a PhD student?
No, according to the competition rules, only bachelor’s and master’s students can participate.
Can international students join the team?
Yes, but it depends on your specific situation. We recommend applying only if you will still be a student at Politecnico di Milano for the 2025/2026 academic year. A basic knowledge of Italian is appreciated, but not required.
Can I attend the team conferences remotely?
Depending on the availability of streaming setups, the conferences will be broadcasted on YouTube.
Can I complete the selection process remotely?
No, the written test and interviews must be taken in person.
In what language will the test and interview be conducted?
The test questions will be in English for all departments and candidates. The questions can be answered either in Italian or English. Interviews will be in Italian, unless the candidate requests otherwise. However, technical knowledge in English may be assessed.
Once selected, what are the team’s commitments?
The team designs and builds a race car from scratch. New members will receive training from experienced team members on the tools and processes used. Occasionally, work will be conducted in the workshop, and department and general team meetings will be held regularly.
Once selected, when does the design process start?
From the team entry until the end of the academic year, the focus will be on training and completing the 2025 project. Some case studies for the future may be initiated in parallel, but the next design phase will begin in September.
If I join one department, can I switch to another later?
This is not officially allowed and is only possible if it aligns with the team's needs at a given time, in addition to demonstrating strong applicable skills in the target department.
